Congratulations pour in for Markovic

Congratulations are still pouring in from politicians and world leaders for Dusko Markovic, who became Montenegro’s new prime minister.

In his congratulatory message Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban said that the political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries had dynamic development in recent years and a stable partnership based on shared values and goals was created between Hungary and Montenegro as a result.

“I assure you that Hungary will continue to strongly support the development of our relations. I am particularly pleased that we will be able to welcome Montenegro as a full NATO member soon, which Hungary, among others, contributed to by the engagement of our embassy in Podgorica as the NATO contact point embassy,” Orban said in a letter to PM Markovic.

In his congratulatory message to Markovic, Slovak PM Robert Fico commended the progress in European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

“You’ve taken office at a crucial moment for Montenegro – when the ratification of the accession agreement with the North Atlantic alliance is ongoing and when the country enters the more demanding part of the accession negotiations with the EU, during which the country will face the challenges in meeting the requirements for closing negotiating chapters. I am convinced that you have all personal and professional capacities and necessary political sense to contribute to the new Montenegro’s progress in meeting its strategic goals. At the same time, I assure you that you can count on the full support of the Slovak Republic both during its presidency of the Council of the European Union and upon its completion,” reads the congratulation note.

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov also congratulated Montenegrin counterpart on forming the 41st Government of Montenegro.

“Let me express my pleasure because of the friendly relations between our two countries and their increasingly progressive development. I am confident that we will continue our mutual efforts to strengthen and deepen the bilateral dialogue in all the fields of mutual interest. The Euro-Atlantic progress of Montenegro is not just a success for your country, but also a powerful contribution to security and stability in the Western Balkans and the success of the region as a whole. The Republic of Bulgaria supports powerful Montenegro’s progress in European integration and I assure you that you can count on our support in the next period,” he said.

In his congratulatory note to Markovic, the prime minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Pak Pong-ju said:

“Let me express my firm belief that the bilateral relations between our countries will continue to develop successfully. I wish you much success in further work on the overall progress of your country,” he stated.

PM also received congratulatory notes from representatives of international financial institutions, the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The World Bank’s country director for the Western Balkans Ellen Goldstein said she was pleased that in his opening speech Markovic stated priorities that are identical to those identified in the WB strategy in Montenegro.

“That is a good basis for productive cooperation in order to achieve dynamic, sustainable and inclusive economic growth of your country,” she said.

The EBRD president Suma Chakrabarti said he was looking forward to strengthening cooperation between EBRD and Montenegro.

“EBRD is ready to continue supporting your country on its path of comprehensive economic reform, regional development and integration,” he said in his congratulatory letter to Markovic.
