Marković: Russian military structures responsible for the incident

Military structures connected to Russia are responsible for the incident that occurred during the election day, said Montenegrin Prime Minister Duško Marković.

“Montenegrin case was a sort of modus operandi for Russian paramilitary formations that act in other countries as well“, Marković said for Wall Street Journal.

In this interview, the first one Marković gave to a foreign publication since becoming a Prime Minister in November, he accused Russian paramilitary services for the attempted state coup on the election day.

Wall Street Journal writes that those who oppose NATO membership claim that the whole affair was orchestrated by DPS.

“Can you imagine the idea of someone connecting Russian and Serbian nationals and organize such an event“, Marković stated.

He said that the leadership in Serbia, after initially denying Montenegrin claims, came to agree with them. They are now actively contributing to the investigation.

Wall Street Journal states that Montenegro is strategically important to Russia because it could provide a fuel port on the Adriatic Sea.

The US have been influencing Balkan for years in order to persuade them on the Western path. Montenegro responded adequately.

Wall Street Journal reminds that, after Kosovo announced independence in 2008, Montenegro recognized the new state, “despite opposition from Serbs in the country“.

“In 2010, Montenegro sent 40 soldiers to Afghanistan. That does not sound like much, but Montenegro only has 2.000 soldiers“, the text reads.

Marković said that there are no countries in Balkan formed on the principle of rule of law, democracy, freedom.

“We want to escape that centuries old circle and move forward to NATO“, Montenegrin Prime Minister said.
