Mugoša: The situation is very serious, the epidemic is spreading across the world

Director of the Institute for Public Health, Dr Boban Mugoša, said at the press conference today that the coronavirus situation “is very serious”.

“It’s serious in Europe as well. There has been a surge in the number of infections. The epidemic is spreading and Europe is currently worst-hit region. Our task is so curb it and the only way to do that is to adhere to measures we imposed”, Dr Mugoša said.

Fast tests coming soon

Dr Mugoša announced that they were considering the possibility of testing in several places. He also announced fast tests.

More recovered cases than reported

Montenegro is struggling.

“We can still state that the epidemic is under control. We have more recovered patients than we report. The reason for that lies in the fact that we don’t manage to process all the samples”, Doctor points out.

Dr Nermin Abdić, director of the Emergency unit of the Clinical Center, pointed out that 58 COVID-19 patients were under hospital treatment in the CC.

Up to 250 examinations in the Emergency unit

Dr Abdić touched on the work of the Emergency unit which manages to carry out even up to 250 examinations on a daily basis.

“We have proposed traffic light measure. If National Coordination Body concludes that we should accept the new assessment, we are going to consider that. We want measures to be effective”, Dr Mugoša explained.

96 healthcare workers have coronavirus

Dr Abdić pointed out that all healthcare workers who had tested positive for the virus “are stable”.

Dr Mugoša said he had no accurate data on the number of education staff who got the virus, but he is sure there are not many.

Gratitude to healthcare staff

Dr Abdić expressed his gratitude to healthcare workers.

“Thank you for everything you do for COVID-19 patients”, Dr Abdić said.

“If we stick to measures, the situation should become more stable in three weeks”, Dr Mugoša pointed out.

Abdić: I’m not going to leave Clinical Center

Asked if he is leaving CC, Dr Abdić said he didn’t know where that conclusion had come from.

“I don’t have time to deal with media speculations. I’m not going to leave CC”, Dr Abdić said.
