Nationalists guilty of tensions in Balkans

Stronger presence of EU in Western Balkan and European future of this region are key in preserving peace and stability, it was said today during a meeting between Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic and President of Hungary Janos Ader in Budapest, it was stated from Public relations service of Montenegro.

“During the meeting, held during official visit of Prime Minister to Hungary, a deterioration of situation and higher tensions on Balkan were noted, due to strengthening of nationalist political forces that aim to steer their countries from the EU future. The best way to respond to such actions is active policy of expansion of EU and NATO, said Markovic, adding that the dialogue must be promoted so that the regional countries can recognize their interest in integration processes. It was also noted that EU funds must be more available in order to strengthen the economy of countries and their resources”, the statement reads.

Current issues EU is facing will not discourage Montenegro, Markovic said, as it is determined to carry on the path of reforms, through 26 open chapters and closures of some others. EU is the best framework for Montenegro and its interests, he said.

“Ratification process is in its end stages, and the Prime Minister expects it to be finalized by May, so that Montenegro could take part in NATO Summit as a full fledged member”, the statement reads.

Ader expressed his full support to Montenegro and its integration plans, and said that Montenegro could already be congratulated on its membership in NATO.

“Speaking in the context of excellent bilateral relations between Montenegro and Hungary, Markovic underlined contributions from Hungarian companies to GDP growth and expressed hope to see even more Hungarian investors in Montenegro”, the statement concludes.
