Pejovic: Ratification to be finished as planned

The ratification of Montenegro’s NATO accession protocol will be finished as planned, said the minister of European affairs, Aleksandar Andrija Pejovic.

Asked how likely it is that the Unites States would ratify the protocol on Thursday, Pejovic said that the Senate has its own procedure.

He said that in this case, nothing depends on Montenegro.

“Our American partners assured us that this process would come to an end,” Pejovic told reporters after the conference on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of signing the Treaty of Rome.

He said that joining NATO was also important because of the European Union (EU), because the alliance and the union have almost the same member states.

“These processes are complementary,” said Pejovic.

He said that the completion of the protocol ratification in the United States and Spain would certainly further prepare Montenegro, as a member of NATO, to even better respond to the future challenges when it comes to the EU accession negotiations.

“After the completion of these processes, we can be sure that Montenegro will steadily continue its progress towards the EU,” Pejovic said.
